Research areas

Population Genetics, Evolution, Convervation, and Cytogenetics

Population biology and evolutionary dynamics of wild and domesticated plant species from tropical areas and implications for conserving genetic resources. Classical and molecular cytogenetics and impact on plant evolution.

Molecular Genetics and System Biology

Studies on the regulation of gene expression, functional genomics, genetics of plant-microorganisms interaction, use of molecular markers in the study of disease resistance, and association with growth-promoting bacteria. Construction of genetic maps, gene editing, and carbon and nitrogen metabolism in plants.

Plant Breeding, Quantitative Genetics, and Statistics Genetics

Development and incorporation of new approaches in the genetic improvement of plants to identify genes of interest and obtain information that assists breeders in decision-making.
