Professor Augusto Garcia

Short CV

Dr. Augusto has a MsC and PhD in Genetics in Plant Breeding (ESALQ/USP) and a postdoc in Statistical Genetics (North Carolina State University, Raleigh, NC). He started his career as a researcher on sugarcane breeding (PMGCA/USFCar) and then as a faculty of Department of Exact Sciences (ESALQ).

He has been teaching for undergraduate and graduated students at ESALQ and UNICAMP. He was the president of the São Paulo region of the Brazilian Association of Plant Breeding (2009-2011). Dr. Garcia is editor of journals such as Scientia Agricola (2013-2015), Theoretical and Applied Genetics (2013-) and BMC Genetics (2016-).

Augusto's Lab develop research about developing or adapting statistical models for analysis of genetic data, with emphasis on understanding the genetic architecture of quantitative traits, including polyploid species. The main research subjects are building linkage maps, QTL and association mapping, and genomic selection.
